SilbaSkincare Life's Journey

Silke’s Life Journey and How It All Began

At SilbaBodyandSkincare, we believe in natural, simple, effective, crueltyfree, eco-friendly skincare that empowers our client’s to live their healthiest lives through self-care and nurturing your largest organ, your skin!

Hi! I'm Silke Bayer, licensed aromatherapist, and founder of Silba.

It was not easy for me to talk about what happened years ago and it took me a while to write this story (had here some great help too :)) but after thinking back and forth I thought that I wanted to share this with all of you. I believe that my experience can help other people and maybe change their life's a little bit. At least, that's what I hope.

I learned why health and wellness practices are impactful from a young age. I grew up in Germany and always lived life with a European sensibility. I would eat organic foods, limit my salt and sugar intake, and got quite a bit of exercise. At that time, my health was excellent, and it was what allowed me to survive a severe health issue.

I will never forget August 18th, 2002. This day had a significant impact on my journey through life. I suffered a brain aneurysm at the age of 33 and can proudly call myself a brain aneurysm survivor. As unusual as it was to have a brain aneurysm at 33, I later learned that it was my daily health routine and self-care that saved my life. Who would have thought of something like this? Not me in the first place.

The aneurysm happened on a day when I developed a mild headache. As it didn’t get any better, I tried to cool down my forehead with a washcloth. I started to get dizzy in the next hour and had to wobble across the living room to the phone to dial 911. When the doctor arrived at my home, my blood pressure was over 200, and I was rushed to the hospital to be treated.

One of the most impactful things that happened at the hospital was when the doctor told me that I was fortunate to make it to the hospital and to be monitored for two more days prior to my surgery because my health was in excellent condition. The aneurysm had become critical and started to leak, it was a very dangerous situation. Not many people actually make it to the hospital after experiencing an aneurysm. I was incredibly blessed that my surgery went well on August 20th, 2002.

When you learn that your body can fight ailments, your mind starts to shift, and that’s when I decided to make over-reaching lifestyle changes to my daily routine, including the passion I developed for using natural skin care products. One of the biggest milestones in my life was when I went to school in August 2015 to became a Certified Aromatherapist. I wanted to learn everything I could about the study of essential oils, safety, methods of extraction, blending techniques, and methods of absorption into the skin before I opened Silba.

I have many new methodologies that I live by following the surgery as I feel I got a second chance at life. Since then our team celebrates my second birthday on August 20th every year which comes up soon. Yay!

Since surviving the aneurysm, I have learned to listen to my body. Your body tells you when you go overboard or need to make changes. I make time for me. I relax, listen to music, read a book, put on a face mask, get a massage. I started eating healthier. I have three solid meals a day. I also added Pilates to my workouts, which I love.

(P.S. I make my own buttermilk, yogurt, sprouts, homemade bread as well as elderberry syrup to prevent cold or flu. And I plant my own herbs! I always was a DIY kinda girl :))

SilbaBodyandSkincare was created from my life’s journey and knowledge of what using clean products can do for one’s overall health. After getting certified as an aromatherapist, I came to terms that nothing on the market fit my exact skin care needs, and that’s when I created my Daily Essential Skincare Line and 3/27 Signature Skinare Line

I hope that my journey inspires the way you think about your health and wellness habits and what you put on your body. I want to encourage everyone to live their healthiest lives. It has become my life’s work and full-time passion.

Wishing you all health and happiness!

Love,
Silke
