I will never forget August 18th, 2002. This day had a significant impact on my journey through life. I suffered a brain aneurysm at the age of 33 and can proudly call myself a brain aneurysm survivor. As unusual as it was to have a brain aneurysm at 33, I later learned that it was my daily health routine and self-care that saved my life.
The aneurysm happened on a day when I developed a mild headache. As it didn’t get any better, I tried to cool down my forehead with a washcloth. I started to get dizzy in the next hour and had to wobble across the living room to the phone to dial 911. When the doctor arrived at my home, my blood pressure was over 200, and I was rushed to the hospital to be treated.
One of the most impactful things that happened at the hospital was when the doctor told me that I was fortunate to make it to the hospital and to be monitored for two more days prior to my surgery because my health was in excellent condition. The aneurysm had become critical and started to leak, it was a very dangerous situation. Not many people actually make it to the hospital after experiencing an aneurysm. I was incredibly blessed that my surgery went well on August 20th, 2002.
When you learn that your body can fight ailments, your mind starts to shift, and that’s when I decided to make over-reaching lifestyle changes to my daily routine, including the passion I developed for using natural skin care products. One of the biggest milestones in my life was when I went to school in August 2015 to became a Certified Aromatherapist. I wanted to learn everything I could about the study of essential oils, safety, methods of extraction, blending techniques, and methods of absorption into the skin before I opened Silba.
Since surviving the aneurysm, I have learned to listen to my body. Your body tells you when you go overboard or need to make changes. I make time for me. I relax, listen to music, read a book, put on a face mask, get a massage. I started eating healthier. I have three solid meals a day. I also added Pilates to my workouts.
(P.S. I make my own buttermilk, yogurt, sprouts, homemade bread as well as elderberry syrup to prevent cold or flu. And I plant my own herbs!)
SilbaBodyandSkincare was created from my life’s journey and knowledge of what using clean products can do for one’s overall health. After getting certified as an aromatherapist, I came to terms that nothing on the market fit my exact skin care needs, and that’s when I created my skincare line. Recently I added my first product E A S E De-Stress/Anxiety Roll-on from my Aromatherapy Line.
